This is a passage from Jodi Picoult’s book “Lone Wolf” which my mother is reading. She said this passage stood out to her. I love my mom :)
Couldn’t help it.
If you’re so inclined, you can make your own White Feminist meme here.
YES YES YES
If she were queer would this be made? Aren’t women, regardless of their race, still oppressed? I completely understand where this is coming from, and there is totally a “holier than thou” attitude that comes from people who consider themselves progressive and open when actually they’re kind of a pretentious naive dick (and I am very aware that Ms. Dunham [and myself] have experienced white privilege, which completely wipes out the realizations about our world, that require educating yourself on…did that make sense?)
I do find it frustrating when some white people speak about racism as if they’ve experienced it themselves. They hate it so much they put on the grandest martyr mask, sort of ala Sandra Bullock in The Blind Side (“Oh how nice of that righteous white woman to help that poor black man who can’t help himself”).
And I know it’s just a meme, but. When meme’s are counter productive to everyone working together and maybe educating someone who is a bit misguided (I mean, I don’t how you’d reach Lena Dunham, but alas). Write a post about it. Talk about why you find it problematic.
Dialogue is the greatest tool we have, and to me ignorance is an opportunity for education.
I don’t disagree with the message or point of the meme, I just find it counterproductive and frustrating. Write about why you find Ms. Dunham problematic, and where you think she’s misguided. Work it out. Explore what implications she makes with her work and general views.
Otherwise we are just cheap taking shots at each other while not working towards the common goal of equality and erasing ignorance.
Educate those around you.
But by all means continue to post hilarious political meme’s. They make great hilarious insights. But only that. And on that note, if there’s something in this post you don’t like, tell me about it (seriously).
(Note: I’m not saying anyone who would reblog or post these meme’s hasn’t taken the time to participate in the dialogue…but I just had to put this out there).

My drag queen Ariel fantasy has been realized. Video coming later. (Taken with Instagram)

It will be up a bit late but Athena is making a special Canada Day/Pride video message. This is the tentative backdrop. (Taken with Instagram)
